Eva, a sixteen-year-old aristocratic orphan, lives under the tutelage of the Baron, a local landowner in rural Latvia in the late 19th century. The Baron schemes to lay his hands on Eva’s family inheritance by marrying her off. Free spirited Eva, intent on not letting this happen, runs away from home in a daring escape. RIGA-2041 is a combination of several stories depicting the pursuit of happiness. The story takes place in Riga – city overwhelmed by the cult of happiness. It abounds in commercials of different inventions and technologies claiming to solve any problem. Protagonists change their looks for good; real humans are replaced by projections; “happiness doctor” is a sought-after profession. The viewer can decide for himself, whether happiness can be found in technological solutions, or are we still responsible for our own happiness.
Starting from the September 21st at the Citadele Cinema, a collection of the best films from the kinofestival Lielais Kristaps 2012 by latvian directors will be available for viewing. 6 Tricks includes films, such as Window by Una Rozenbauma, Audition by Dāvis Kaņepe, Signs of Light from Ilze Kunga-Melngaile, The Personality Shop from Pauls Ķesteris, Guten Morgen and the Third Eye from Elīna Eihmane, and the awarded film of the festival, Film from Ivo Briedis and Māra Ķimele.
