The peaceful Amity Island is terrorized by a fierce man-eating shark. It attacks swimmers. No one can enjoy the sea and the sun anymore; everyone is on alert, tourists stay away, and locals are unhappy. The townspeople struggle to get rid of the shark, but without success. The local sheriff, together with two friends, decides to kill the shark on its own turf — in the water.
