1950. William Lee (Daniel Craig), an American immigrant in Mexico City, spends most of his time almost entirely alone, except for a few encounters with other members of the small American diaspora. When he meets Eugene Allerton, a former army officer who has recently arrived in the city, he feels for the first time in his life that he may finally be able to form an intimate connection with someone.
