Lustrum

1h 32min  |  Documentary  |  Release Date: 08.11.2018

During the aftermath of the 1991 coup d'état attempt, a part of the KGB archives in Latvia were seized, including the files of more than 4300 active informants. The publication of the records was delayed for decades until four years ago when politicians decided to task historians with exploring and then making public the contents of the archives.

Lustrum was one of the state administration principles in the Roman Empire, providing that in every case of political power transfer the outgoing officials would ceremonially confess all their sins and swear allegiance to the new authorities.

A story of the KGB policies in the 1980s and early 1990s, the film sheds light on the Soviet totalitarian system that is still making the cream of the Latvian intelligentsia analyse their every step, lie, repent, confess, make excuses or explain.

Movie in Latvian without subtitles.
