Three generations of women survive easterly wind, fire, madness, superstition and even death through goodness, lies and an unlimited vitality. Raimunda (Pénelope Cruz) is married to an unemployed laborer, and they have a teenage daughter (Yohana Cobo). Her sister Sole (Lola Due?as) makes a living as a hairdresser. When their mother (Carmen Maura) dies in a fire, she returns as a ghost to sort out the situations she couldn't resolve while living.
