„The Last Hero” is a cinematographic tribute to Viktor Tsoy, a legendary musician, leader of the band „Kino”, who died in a car crash. The production of the film started when Tsoy was alive and nobody knew what cards fate holds up its sleeve...

Director Alexey Uchitel received an offer to make a film about Viktor right after his death. The author of the sensational film „Rock”, in which Viktor Tsoy was introduced to the world, had a mass of footage that was not included in this film. But Uchitel categorically declined the offer: „...First, it very much looked like exploitation of a popular name. Second, Victor had a very close friend, Rashid Nugmanov. The same author who made „The Needle”. He had the right to make a film about Tsoy. Therefore I offered him: you can use everything I have. A year went by and Rashid confessed: „I can’t. We were too close...” I had nothing else to do but get to work myself.”

The film was made in 1992 but it was never released on the big screen. Now the legendary film-monument has been restored and digitalized and for the first time it is available for distribution in digital cinemas.

„The Last Hero” is a documentary about the life of the legendary musician. His family, friends and relatives took part in the film. Excerpts from films featuring Viktor Tsoy, amateur film footage and live performances have been used in the making of this film.
