Fourteen-year-old Janis is a boy from the small town of Jelgava in Latvia, After falling in love with his classmate Kristine and accidentally making new friends - Death and Zombie – he turns over a new page in his teenage life: he dreams of playing in a band, he starts listening to heavy metal music and starts wearing a completely new set of “in”clothes – a journey that inevitably leads both his teachers and his parents to tears. RIGA-2041 is a combination of several stories depicting the pursuit of happiness. The story takes place in Riga – city overwhelmed by the cult of happiness. It abounds in commercials of different inventions and technologies claiming to solve any problem. Protagonists change their looks for good; real humans are replaced by projections; “happiness doctor” is a sought-after profession. The viewer can decide for himself, whether happiness can be found in technological solutions, or are we still responsible for our own happiness.
